Plant Hormones
Hormones are organic molecules that can influence the physiology of plants and animals, even at low concentrations. Hormones play an important role in the growth and flowering of the plant, among other things. This article explains briefly how plant hormones work and how they ensure that plants grow and flower.Members Only
Florigen
Many plants are ‘short-day’ plants, which means that the plant starts to bloom once the days shorten. This is why horticulturists cut the amount of light from eighteen hours a day to twelve when they want to start the flowering phase. It’s actually a shame from the plant’s perspective: six fewer hours of light a day is six fewer hours of photosynthesis, and thus less energy for your plants in the form of sugars. Yet there’s also a substance that can get your plants blooming without your having to cut down on their light.Members Only

Controlling Nature’s Whims?
With the introduction of the BIOCANNA products it is now possible to grow organic crops in a controlled manner. BIOCANNA products make it possible to control growth of crops, instead of just ‘waiting to see what happens’.Members Only
CANNAZYM New & Improved
CANNAZYM had a face-lift and a whole new fresh look on life. CANNA introduced this revolutionary product to the market many years ago. It remains unmatched in purpose and performance; quietly protecting the investments of our growers from the ravage of root disease and pot binding. CANNAZYM continues to be the only enzyme product on the market today that specifically targets the food source and underlying cause of root binding, old cast off and dead root material. How could we make it even better? Could we improve its steady, unswerving purpose that has so satisfied the needs of growers around the world? Well, we did.Members Only
The what’s and whys of organic growing part 2

The what’s and whys of organic growing part 1
At CANNA we see more and more people choosing to grow organically. In fact, over the past decade, organic products have become the fastest growing sector of agriculture, with an annual increase of at least 20 percent. And going from their positive responses and findings, we expect this trend to continue, and for organic growing to become the growing method of the future.Members Only
Aquaponics
Aquaponics is essentially organic cultivation of plants and animals together in a re-circulating closed system (water tank), using water instead of potting mixes. Technically speaking it is a combination of aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (soil-less plant culture). Although there are currently a limited number of commercial aquaponic operators, many people are expressing a strong interest in this intensive method of food production.Members Only
Taking Cuttings
Nothing could be simpler - take a pair of scissors, cut some tips off a plant, place the cut tips into a medium and away they go, right?

TERRA About Peat and Feed - Part II
In the previous part of this article we gave you the first of our special set of articles on POTTING MIXES. We looked at the different types of potting media available for home growers and we found out about lots of different types of peat. We also told you a little bit about the RHP, the industry’s certification organization.Members Only
TERRA About Peat and Feed
We’ll start of by looking at the different types of potting mix available for home growers and we’ve written a section about different types of peat. And we’ll tell you a little about the RHP, the industry’s certification organisation. But we have so much info for you that it won’t all fit in one article! In the next part we’ll look into the structure of potting mix and the different products obtained from the various methods of cutting peat. On top of all this useful information we’ll be giving you some valuable tips to reduce disease and increase yield and we’ll be drawing up a list of FAQs and growing tips.Members Only
Don’t Mix Brands
Cultivating plants requires time and energy. Naturally every new grower aims for the best results. However, before long, you may find out that there's more to cultivation than just watering the plants!Members Only
Grower's Tips #2
High EC (Electrical Conductivity) in the root zone or irrigation water will slow the movement of water into the root itself. Osmosis is the process by which water moves into a plant root cell and through the different tissue layers before it arrives in the vascular system for transport throughout the plant.Members Only

Grower's Tips
The correct water ratio is the name of the game when it comes to successfully finishing a crop. The crop depends for only 25% on water itself. It is equally dependent on its root environment, top environment, and predicated on plant selection.Members Only
Two Bottles, One Nutrient
CANNA offers a complete COCO system. This consists of a COCO medium as loose fill or in the form of slabs, as well as a COCO nutrient which is adjusted to the natural nutrients in the COCO medium. Many nutrients for growing on other mediums are usually divided into a vegetative and a flowering solution, but this one is not.Members Only

How Plants Communicate
Plants don’t have the same senses as we have but are pretty good at forming a picture of the world around them. And they can even influence this and can communicate with each other and other creatures.Members Only
Mediums For Growing

Organic / Mineral, What’s the Deal?
Organic, inorganic, mineral, natural, all natural… what do they all mean? How come some of these terms get bantered about so loosely? It’s confusing and made more so by advertising and politics.Members Only
Measuring COCO
The most reliable method for measuring the nutrient levels in Coco is using the 1:1.5 extraction method. EC and pH of the root environment can be determined by using this method.Members Only

Fungus: Kingdom of the Fluffies
A meteorite fell to earth in Mexico around 65 million years ago. It plunged the earth into total darkness for about four years. There was no light for plants and they died out in great numbers. This meant that there was no more food for the animals and they also died out on a large scale. It is widely believed that this was responsible for the decline of the dinosaurs.Members Only
Growing on Coco: Busting the Myth
In my travels and correspondence around the world, I find there is much confusion about the use of coconut husk litter, after aging commonly known as coco peat or mulch, in crop production. I was first made aware of the product as a potential additive to mineral soil or peat lite mixes in the early 1980’s.Members Only
The Influence of Colours on Plants
Light is essential for every plant. Chlorophyll allows plants to convert energy from light into sugars. Does light impact plants in ways other than just supplying them with energy? Do the colours even influence a plant’s growth and development? This article reviews these and other questions.Members Only

Influence of Music on Plants

CANNA is a trusted name among growers. Since the 1980’s the founders of CANNA have proven that passion for plants and a scientifically sound approach go together perfectly. CANNA is the top brand name for the grower who wants to get more out of their hobby.
Cultivation
Before you can begin to cultivate your plants you have to think carefully about what you want and what is possible. When doing this you have to consider how much can be invested in plant material and cultivation equipment such as feeding, lamps or ventilation. Are you going to cultivate indoors or outdoors? Which variety are you going to use and what sort of harvest are you thinking about? What starting material are you going to use? How large is the area available for cultivation? How many plants per square metre?
Grow with CANNABOOST
The people at CANNA have our favourite plant in their blood. In the seventies and eighties, when we mostly grew outdoors in The Netherlands in a provisional way, the founders of CANNA were already pioneers, working with plants scientifically. Their university educations in biology, chemistry and agronomics, complemented with 30 years’ experience and a love for plants has made CANNA what it is today "the undisputed number one in the sector".
CANNABOOST: Interview with a grower
I have been using CANNABOOST Accelerator for the last year and now I can see a difference. “The plants have a better immune system and I can generally harvest between a week and a week and a half earlier and I still get the same result”. This is very important for me because I can harvest more often in a year like this.
